“It was probably past the telephone poles and the wires,” Dania Beach resident Mary Davis told Local 10 News.

Broward County officials said a contractor was drilling fiber optic lines around 11 a.m. when an eight-inch pipe was struck, causing it to rupture.

They said 41 customers were impacted, including resident Susan Saver.

“Right now, we don’t have any water and I and I had a feeling that was going to happen.” Saver said. “Luckily, I always save water, so I always have some water.”

Crews later isolated the water main and fixed the break, but the northbound and southbound lanes of Southwest 40th Avenue and 56th Street remained closed as crews worked to repair the roadway.

The street was closed in both directions, but drivers were advised to use State Road 7 as an alternate route.

Officials said a precautionary boil-water notice will be issued for portions of homes and businesses along Southwest 40th Avenue.
