It happened Tuesday night at a Sunoco gas station located near DeSoto Boulevard and Pembroke Road.

Police said three people were shot in the incident, one of whom did not survive. He was identified Wednesday morning as 19-year-old Christian Corea.

Local 10’s Jackie Pascale spoke to Corea’s mother, Jennifer Mercedes, Wednesday.

“They also took my best friend, because I had him so young, so it was like I grew up with this child and he was not just my best friend, he was my son,” Mercedes said. “It’s hard, and I don’t have the proper words. I really don’t want any mother to go through this.”

She added that Corea was going to be a father, as his girlfriend is due to give birth in June.

According to authorities, one of the victims who was described as an innocent bystander was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital.

“He tried to fix his car and one bullet came across the street and it hit him in the thigh,” convenience store owner Mohammad Chowdhury said.

Police said another person who was shot initially ran away before being driven to a hospital for treatment, possibly by a relative.

According to police, someone walked up to a black Mercedes-Benz at the gas station, there was some kind of altercation, and then an exchange of gunfire occurred.

Surveillance video shows three men talking before an altercation broke out and two of them pulled out guns and opened fire.

Officers were searching the area around the gas station for a fourth person involved in the shooting by ground and by air, with a helicopter aiding in the search, as well as drones and a K9 unit.

Miramar police and a crime scene investigation unit were back at the scene on Wednesday.

They arrived around 1 p.m. to execute a search warrant on a home off Pembroke Road, just one block from the gas station.

According to police, a person who lives at the home was involved in the shooting.

Corea’s family has set up a GoFundMe page in order to help with funeral expenses.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Miramar Police Department or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
