MIAMI — The Carnival Horizon, a massive cruise ship, set sail this week on a mission to deliver 24 pallets of much-needed medical supplies to Jamaica.
The shipment, which weighs roughly the same as an entire Miami-Dade Metro bus, will help aid the island’s recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa.
Carnival Cruise Line has teamed up with the Miami Heat and the nonprofit organization Direct Relief to bring critical assistance to the Caribbean island.
The collaboration extends beyond the port of Miami, with efforts also taking place at Miami International Airport, where 120 pallets filled with medical supplies were airlifted directly to Jamaica on Saturday.
This effort comes at a crucial time as Jamaica begins its long and challenging process of recovery and rebuilding.
Miami Heat legend Alonzo Mourning is scheduled to join the effort on Sunday to lend a hand and raise awareness for the cause.
