MIRAMAR, Fla. — A fire tore through a Miramar home Thursday night, leaving it heavily damaged but causing no injuries, officials said.
The blaze broke out around 7:50 p.m. near the 2100 block of Arcadia Drive.
When fire rescue crews arrived at the scene, they found intense yellow flames shooting through the roof and crawling down the sides of the house. Video from the scene showed the fire soaring above the structure before spreading rapidly across the home.
Miramar Fire Rescue said no one was home and no pets were inside. Crews from all five city stations and a Pembroke Pines unit responded. A downed power line was reported nearby, though the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“They did shut the grid down and a majority of the homes on this immediate block do not have power,” said Miramar Fire Rescue public information officer Tara Smith. “The hope is that it’ll be a quick recovery.”
Neighbor Brigitte Gursky said she saw the flames and heard a loud explosion as she drove by.
“When I was driving around the corner I saw this huge orange and a lot of smoke,” Gursky said. “I just smelt fire. As soon as I turned the corner—just loud boom. We don’t really know what happened. A lot of smoke. The power went out.”
Local 10 captured the aftermath showing a gaping hole in the roof and extensive fire damage along the home’s exterior. Firefighters said the structure appears to be a total loss.
The American Red Cross has been called in to assist the displaced family, and Florida Power & Light crews were working late into the night to restore electricity to the neighborhood.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
