An 11-year-old girl and a man were shot outside a McDonald’s in Hallandale Beach on Saturday afternoon, deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Local 10 News.

Saira is two-time Emmy-nominated reporter and comes to South Florida from Madison, Wisconsin, where she was working as a reporter and anchor. Saira earned Emmy nominations for storm coverage of Janesville, Wisconsin, and a feature on teachers at a unique school within a children's hospital. She also received an award from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association for excellence in live reporting.
Saira began her journalism career in Minot, North Dakota, as a prime-time anchor and reporter. Saira reported on major oil spills and political issues on North Dakota's Native American reservations. She also established and led a weekly medical segment.
Saira was born and raised in Galesburg, Illinois, and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Spanish. She is a proud member of Delta Zeta sorority. After graduating, she joined the Teach For America corps and spent two years teaching language arts and reading to at-risk eighth graders in Dallas.
Saira is excited to be in South Florida and loves experiencing the rich diversity, culture and delicious food the area has to offer. She's also a big fan of the SoFlo climate and does not miss brutally cold Midwest winters. In her free time, Saira enjoys tennis, musical theater, reading and cooking shows.
