The attack occurred just after 11:30 a.m. at a home along the 5500 block of Lakewood Circle South, according to Margate police.

Police said fire rescue crews had to force their way into the residence through a window to reach the child, who was locked inside a bedroom.

The boy was flown by Broward Sheriff’s Office air rescue to Broward Health Medical Center. His condition was not immediately released.

Police said there were two pit bulls inside the home at the time of the attack.

They said both belonged to a family member who lives elsewhere and had left the dogs at the house for about a day.

Investigators have not yet determined whether both animals bit the boy.

Authorities said both dogs were taken into custody by Margate Animal Control as the investigation continues.
