Showers and a few storms are forecast to develop later in the morning and continue into the afternoon as the front pushes south, with activity clearing the coastline by late afternoon.

Behind the front, gusty north winds are expected to usher in cooler, drier air, with temperatures falling into the 50s by sunset.

A Cold Weather Advisory will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Friday for inland areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, as well as parts of Palm Beach and Collier counties. Wind chills are expected to dip into the 30s in some locations, particularly inland.

Local 10 meteorologist Julie Durda said South Florida will feel the biggest temperature change overnight into Friday morning as colder air settles in behind the front. While overnight lows are expected to fall into the 40s across much of the region, gusty winds could make it feel significantly colder.

Durda said rain chances are not expected to be widespread, though scattered showers could develop as the front moves through the area midday into the afternoon. Winds may gust into the 20s mph, creating hazardous conditions for boating and rough conditions along area beaches.

Despite the brief cold snap, warmer temperatures and drier conditions are expected to return for the weekend, with high pressure building in behind the front and providing near-ideal outdoor weather.
