July 18: South Florida to see shift in weather pattern into the weekend

South Florida will see a shift in the recent weather pattern into the weekend as a strong ridge of high pressure builds in from the western Atlantic.

This will usher in noticeably drier air and limit shower and thunderstorm development. Rain chances will be quite low at 10–20%, mostly confined to late afternoon or early evening when the sea breeze is strongest. With fewer clouds and little rain expected, daytime heating will be more intense. Highs will climb into the low to mid‑90s. Combined with southerly breezes and high humidity, heat index values or “feels like” temperatures are forecast to soar between 103 and 109°F across the metro areas (with isolated spots even hotter). The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 AM to 6 PM today—the first of the summer for South Florida. Be sure to stay hydrated, seek shade, and take frequent breaks if you’re outdoors.
