Republicans make up Senate majority; Scott aims to replace McConnell

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Even with election results pending, Republicans were the majority in the U.S. Senate after Tuesday’s election.

Early Wednesday morning, the GOP had 51 victories, including the re-election of U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, who aims to become the majority leader.

Sen. Mitch McConnell, the minority leader, will be retiring.

As of 4 a.m., the Democrats had 42 Senate seats with seven races to be called.
