MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins picked up their first win of the season Monday night, holding off the New York Jets 27-21, but players are going into this victory with mixed emotions as star wide receiver Tyreek Hill is waking up in the hospital Tuesday morning.
Hill suffered a knee injury in the third quarter while snagging a first down reception after being tackled along the sideline.
Teammates and trainers surrounded him as he held his left leg in pain before being carted off the field.

“He’s at the hospital. I know he’s staying overnight. I know it was a dislocation,” McDaniel told reporters after the game.
“He was probably in the best spirits of any player that I’ve ever seen. It’s such a terrible experience when you go out and see guys when they have issues like that. But he immediately had wide eyes and said, ‘I’m good -- just make sure the guys get this win,’” he added.
ESPN reported Tuesday morning that in addition to the dislocated knee, Hill tore multiple ligaments in his knee, including his ACL, and had surgery on Tuesday morning.
McDaniel also confirmed Tuesday that Hill will miss the rest of the season.
Hill addressed his fans on an Instagram post before beginning his surgery.
“Tyreek Hill here - the cheetah. I’m about to go in here for this surgery. Need prayers. You guys have been awesome fins nation and the entire NFL showing me lots of love and prayers,” he said.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter posted on X that Hill’s surgery “went very well according to his doctors” per the receiver’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus.
Tyreek Hill’s surgery is now complete and “went very well according to his doctors”, per the receiver’s agent Drew Rosenhaus, who added another surgery will not be needed. “It’s about rehab and he will play next season. The realistic goal is the start of the season.” pic.twitter.com/u4lWrDPPvk

Rosenhaus also said Hill will play next season and the “realistic goal” is for him to return at the start of the 2026-2027 season.
On Monday, Hill’s teammates said he was in good spirits despite his injury.
“He’s smiling – like, bruh, you just got hurt,” running back De’Von Achane said.
His team was in disbelief at first as he was all smiles after the incident, but then again, it’s Hill.
“He was kinda joking -- that’s just his personality,” quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said.
“Reek’s gonna pop back up,” tight end Darren Waller added.
“He was inspiring in that situation, and I think his teammates benefited from that,” McDaniel said.
Hill told them to keep it going as the Dolphins were up 10 to 3 as he left the field.
“What choice do you have when the injured player tells you to move on and win this game?” McDaniel said.
So they did, securing their first season victory — 27 to 21.
“Him just showing that spirit, like he still got a game to win, we gotta lock in. He just put his body on the line to get this first down, so might as well continue to drive,” Achane said.
Moving forward, the offense says they’ll have to get in gear to fill Hill’s gap.
“Excited to see some guys really step up, but there’s no replacing him, but I feel like we got guys that can get the job done,” Waller said.
With Hill out, the Dolphins hope wide receivers Jaylen Waddle, Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine will be able to carry the load. The team is expected to activate Tahj Washington and possibly elevate Theo Weiss Jr. from the practice squad.
The Dolphins are also bringing back veteran wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr., signing him from the Saints’ practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Wilson, who spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Miami, is returning to the team following Tyreek Hill’s season-ending knee injury.
