MIAMI — The Miami Heat are bringing back a familiar face to the organization, bringing forward/center Precious Achiuwa back on a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Achiuwa, 26, was drafted No. 20 overall by the Heat in the 2020 NBA Draft – spending one season with the team before getting traded to the Toronto Raptors, along with Goran Dragic via a sign-and-trade deal in exchange for Kyle Lowry.

In three seasons with the Raptors, Achiuwa averaged 8.9 points per game, 6.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists before being dealt to the New York Knicks, where the former Memphis product averaged 7.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists in two seasons.

The addition of Achiuwa (6-foot-9) brings much-needed size to the organization’s roster, joining Bam Adebayo, who is entering his ninth season with the Heat, and Kel’el Ware, beginning his second.

Miami is set to hold its annual Media Day on Monday before beginning training camp the following morning at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida to begin preparations for the 2025-26 season.

According to league rules, the Heat must trim its roster to a maximum of 18 players (15 on standard contracts; three on two-way contracts) before the start of the regular season – which begins Oct. 22 on the road against the Orlando Magic.
