MIAMI — The Miami Marlins on Monday announced several front office promotions, which included naming Gabe Kapler as the team’s new general manager.

Kapler, who becomes the sixth general manager in franchise history, had been serving as assistant general manager overseeing player, coaching and staff development.

Under his leadership, the Marlins’ minor league system reached new heights in 2025, with four affiliates making the postseason and Triple-A Jacksonville capturing the National Championship.

Before joining Miami, Kapler spent six seasons as a major league manager — with the Philadelphia Phillies from 2018 to 2019 and the San Francisco Giants from 2020 to 2023.

The Los Angeles native also worked as the Dodgers’ director of player development from 2015 to 2017, when he worked alongside current Marlins manager Clayton McCullough.

“It’s an exciting time to be part of the Marlins organization,” Kapler said in a statement on Monday. “The growth and momentum we’ve built are a direct reflection of a clear vision, a strong culture, and an incredible team working together toward a shared goal. I’m proud to help continue that progress.”

Along with Kapler’s promotion, the team elevated Frankie Piliere to vice president of amateur forecasting and player evaluation initiatives, and Vinesh Kanthan to senior director of baseball operations.

“These three leaders have each made a meaningful impact since joining our team,” said Peter Bendix, the Marlins’ president of baseball operations. “Their advancement reflects our commitment to building a culture of innovation, collaboration and excellence.”

Piliere previously served as the Marlins’ director of amateur scouting, overseeing the club’s draft operations. In his two years with Miami, nine of the team’s top 30 prospects were acquired through the draft, according to MLB Pipeline.

Kanthan joined the Marlins after five years with the Texas Rangers, where he worked in baseball operations and sport science. He also held roles with the Philadelphia Phillies and Tampa Bay Rays earlier in his career.

Miami finished the 2025 season with a 79-83 record. Some of the team’s notable moments included sweeping the New York Yankees in a three-game series and eliminating the New York Mets from postseason contention.

The Marlins will open the 2026 season at home against the Colorado Rockies on March 26, 2026.
