Dolphins’ Zach Sieler wants to keep focus on football amid contract talks

Dolphins' Zack Sieler says he's focused on football not his contract head of 2025 season

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — When the Miami Dolphins claimed defensive tackle Zach Sieler off waivers in December 2019, he was used primarily as a rotational piece during the remainder of the team’s rebuilding season.

What the team didn’t anticipate was how productive Sieler would become during his tenure as a Dolphin – notably recording back-to-back 10-sack seasons in 2023 and 2024.

Speaking with reporters on the second day of training camp at the Baptist Health Training Complex, Sieler, 29, didn’t hold back when asked about contract negotiations.

“I do feel that respect coming and I think I’ve earned it. I know I’ve earned it,” Sieler said.

A quick refresher: Sieler did not participate in optional team activities this past spring.

According to Spotrac.com, Sieler is set to earn $12.4 million this season, with his contract averaging $10.25 million per year – ranking 31st among NFL interior defenders.

Having already earned two contract extensions with the organization – the most recent coming before the 2023 season – Sieler knows he’s outplaying his current deal, but he’s not letting that distract him from the task at hand: playing football.

“God’s blessed me with amazing seasons here in Miami. I’m so fortunate to have the time I’ve had here and continue to have here. Obviously, all that stuff is between me and the team,” Sieler said. “What I really care about is getting out there on the field with the guys and building that camaraderie and leadership with them.”

The Dolphins typically don’t discuss contract matters with the media, but the team hopes the situation with Sieler doesn’t end like it did with tight end Jonnu Smith, who was traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers late last month.
