MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Miami Dolphins provided an injury update Thursday after offensive tackle Bayron Matos was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center after sustaining an injury near the end of Wednesday’s practice — the first day of training camp.
The team confirmed Thursday that Matos, 24, has movement in all extremities and is in stable condition. He remains under medical observation for continued evaluation and care.
The exact nature of the injury has not been disclosed. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed Matos was stable upon transport.
Matos, originally from the Dominican Republic, is in his second year with the Dolphins after joining the team through the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.
A former college basketball player at New Mexico and South Florida, he transitioned to football as a walk-on at USF, where he saw limited playing time (22 snaps).
He signed with Miami as an undrafted free agent and spent last season on the practice squad.
During this year’s training camp, Matos had been competing for a backup tackle spot behind starters Patrick Paul and Austin Jackson, alongside players like Larry Borom, Jackson Carman, and Kion Smith.
