MIAMI — The United Nations asked the public for financial donations on Thursday for the organization’s already underfunded humanitarian program in Venezuela.
Even before the two earthquakes hit Venezuela on Wednesday, nearly 8 million people were already in need of aid, according to Tom Fletcher, the UN aid chief.
The earthquakes caused most of the destruction in Caracas, and in the states of La Guaira, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo, and Falcón, according to the UN, which is working with the U.S. State Department and U.S. Southern Command.
