U.S. Postal Service launches Operation Santa for 113th year

Santa

MIAMI — It’s not even Halloween yet, but it’s never too early to start sending letters from South Florida to the North Pole to help Santa Claus and his elves prepare for Christmas.

To help celebrate the holiday spirit, the U.S. Postal Service launched Operation Santa on Monday for the 113th year. The mission: To connect those in need with those who want to give.

“For more than a century, USPS Operation Santa has brought communities together to make the holidays brighter,” Sheila Holman, USPS marketing vice president, said in a statement.

The letters to Operation Santa at 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888, must be postmarked by Dec. 6, and the registration for “adopters” opens on Nov. 3

“Each year, we receive far more letters than we have adopters, and this year we want to change that - especially by encouraging participants to adopt family letters, which makes it possible to fulfill the wishes of an entire household at once,” Holman said.

The letter adoption opens on Nov. 17. Last year, the program introduced the online gift catalog. This year, the selection includes thousands of items for the “adopters.” The last day to ship gifts is Dec. 13.
