MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A surveillance camera installed just hours earlier captured a suspected mail thief in the act at a west Miami-Dade condominium complex, according to residents.

The theft happened around 2:30 a.m. Friday at Parkview Condominiums.

Surveillance video shows a man riding a bicycle through the property while wearing a backwards hat and carrying a blue bag. The man is seen looking over his shoulder before opening a mailbox and stuffing pieces of mail into the bag before riding away.

Additional security footage shows the suspect riding his bicycle through the complex’s parking lot.

Residents told Local 10 News that mail theft has been an ongoing problem at the condominium community, prompting them to hire Henry Lorie to install surveillance cameras.

Ironically, Lorie said he completed the installation Thursday, just hours before the theft.

“Weird, right?” Lorie said. “The guy just walked right up to the cameras. You can see the two cameras, and he actually just walked up oblivious to the fact the cameras were going to record him.”

Lorie said the clear video could help investigators identify the suspect.

“There’s no doubt it was him,” he said. “People have seen him in the area. No one caught him in the act because who’s up at 2:35 in the morning, right?”

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
