MIAMI — The International Federation of the Red Cross asked the public for donations after 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes struck Venezuela on Wednesday.
The organization, which manages one of the largest humanitarian networks in the world, announced the activation of the Disaster Response Emergency Fund on Thursday.
The Venezuelan Red Cross, or “Cruz Roja Venezolana,” reported critical damage to the headquarters on Avenida Andrés Bello in Caracas.
The organization reported staff and volunteers, some of whom had suffered damage at their homes, were working at hospitals and polyclinics, distributing relief supplies and focusing on rescues and assessments.
