BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A brush fire that sparked over the weekend in western Broward County is now fully contained, according to the Florida Forest Service.
FFS officials said Wednesday afternoon that the Max Road Fire, which burned 11,446 acres in the Everglades, is now 100% contained and controlled.
The fire broke out Sunday and had previously been reported at 70% containment Tuesday morning.
Firefighters also continue “mop-up operations” on the nearby 172 Avenue Fire, which has burned 315 acres and is now 65% contained, officials said.
With dry conditions continuing across South Florida, the Florida Forest Service is encouraging residents to “see something, say something” and avoid outdoor burning or carelessly discarding cigarettes.
