Some Broward lifeguards now carrying Narcan

Some South Florida lifeguards training with Narcan

DANIA BEACH, Fla. — At three South Florida beaches, lifeguards are receiving more than water rescue training.

They are now working with Narcan to help save lives.

The product is included inside what are called “jump bags” for lifeguards that are working out of Dania Beach, Deerfield Beach and Hallandale Beach.

Dean Moreno with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue recently trained all the lifeguards.

He said it’s 2026 and rescues happen on more than just with waves.

This was done specifically in time for spring break.

Narcan helps save people who’ve overdosed on opioids, ecstasy or molly, when seconds really count.

Local 10’s Jeff Derderian was given a demonstration of how lifeguards would use it in an emergency.

The Robin Foundation, which is committed to making Narcan available to whoever needs it, says lifeguards are locked and loaded with the life-saving pump, which is priceless.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office says it’s also working with motels and hotels to get more Narcan in more people’s hands in order to save more lives.
