Authorities say spring break in South Florida going smoothly so far

Police have active presence across South Florida's popular spring break locations

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A cloudy day did not stop Spring Break fun across South Florida on Tuesday.

Along Fort Lauderdale Beach, police officers were out among the crowds, with both state and local law enforcement beefing up their presence in plain sight.

Broward County Schools heard kids might have been planning to flock to the beach for a party, so a notice went out on Instagram warning kids and parents it wasn’t a school sanctioned event.

Still, police officers were not taking any chances.

With a few more days of spring break to go, police hope the clouds and any potential trouble float away.

In Miami Beach, a public campaign a few months back to welcome back spring breakers focused on fitness and families instead of just booze and bikinis.

Police say increased visibility appears to be working so far.

According to Miami Beach police, there have been 168 arrests so far, which is down 20% from last year.

Officers say vigilance and warning people to follow the rules is paying off.
