2 hospitalized after SUV crashes into bus bench in Hollywood Two people were injured Friday morning in a car crash in Hollywood, first responders confirmed.

“I see this car going about 70 or 80 miles per hour down U.S. 1 and Johnson and then I see him swerve one time to avoid another car,” one witness said. “There was no way he would have been able to stop, so as he avoided the first one, he somehow lost control and went up on the right side of the sidewalk.”

Local 10 News obtained video of the chilling crash.

Witnesses told Local 10 News that the pedestrian was sitting on a bus bench when he was struck by the SUV. They said they believe one of his legs might have been amputated.

“A bloody massacre over here. It was terrible. The bench is just so crushed where the man was sitting,” one woman said. “But from what I understand, he’s going to survive, possibly from the accident.”

Officials said the driver and pedestrian were both transported to a local hospital as trauma alerts.

“The destruction from all the cars looks terrible -- pieces everywhere,” Emmanuel Leon, who stumbled upon the aftermath of the crash, said. “Like I was telling her, people need to slow down and take it easy out here.”

“It’s pretty sad that this man damn near died if he hasn’t already from being completely innocent,” Leon added.

Hollywood police said the roadway was shut down in both directions during the investigation.

The SUV involved in the crash has since been towed away.

No other details about what led up to the crash were immediately released.
