NORTH MIAMI, Fla. — Flames erupted inside a home in North Miami Monday morning.
The fire was reported in the area of Northeast 122nd Terrace and 12th Court.
Local 10’s Trent Kelly spoke to a man who said he arrived to his sister’s home at about 5:30 a.m. and saw heavy smoke coming from the roof of a neighbor’s house.
“When I get here, I see a whole bunch of firetrucks -- six firetrucks here,” Alan Joseph said. “And I told my sister, ‘What’s going on?’ And I look. When I look, I see a gulf of flames coming from the house in the middle, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, that’s my classmate from 2001, I recognize her. That’s Nadia’s house.’ And that’s when I tell my sister -- she’s like, ‘Oh my God. That is her house over there.’ I went close, I seen they removed her. I don’t know if she was the only one in the house, but thank God, you know, she escaped everything. But it was a cloud of smoke coming from the roof of the house.”
He said the woman was outside the house, wrapped in a blanket, when he arrived and she appeared to be OK.
It’s unclear whether anyone else was inside the home at the time.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
