FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A man died after a police-involved shooting on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale.
Fire rescue personnel and police officers responded at about 12:30 at 900 Chateau Park Drive.
The man was armed when three police officers shot him, according to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
“We know the suspect fired his weapon,” Chief William “Bill” Schultz said during a news conference.
Schutz also said the gunman was “not a part of the initial disturbance” when he “approached” the police officers before the shooting.
After the shooting, Detective Kerri Hagerty, a spokeswoman for FLPD, released a statement saying the suspect had suffered “life-threatening injuries,” and police officers weren’t injured.
Fire rescue personnel took the man to the Broward Health Medical Center, where a doctor later pronounced him dead.
There were about a dozen evidence markers on the grass, near the road, and crime scene tape surrounded the area near a mobile FLPD command vehicle.
“The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be conducting the investigation into this shooting, as is standard protocol following any officer-involved shooting,” Hagerty wrote. “In accordance with departmental policy, the involved officers will be placed on administrative leave with pay, pending an internal review.”
