SUNRISE, Fla. — Sunrise police are investigating reports of a shooting at a local condominium complex that left a man dead Wednesday night.

Police said they responded just after 8 p.m. to a report of a possible shooting at the Sunpointe Springs Condominiums along Northwest 42nd Place off University Drive.

When they arrived, officers found a man dead at the scene.

A Local 10 News crew at the scene early Thursday morning saw crime scene tape surrounding a large section of the complex, with evidence markers covering the ground as detectives from the Sunrise Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit focused on a white car.

Neighbors said they were frightened by the heavy police presence.

One resident, who asked not to be identified, said, “I don’t feel so safe anymore. After last night, I feel like I want to move.”

Dariel Santos, another resident, said he was shocked when he came home from work.

“I was lowkey kinda scared. Prayers go out to the person that happened to. I seen all the cops and the caution tape. Everything was blocked off in the neighborhood. I’ve never see cops like that in the neighborhood,” Santos said.

Leah Rushford, a mother living in the complex, said the shooting did not surprise her.

“This is not the first time something like this has happened and it really doesn’t surprise me,” she said. “Everyone in this neighborhood is so tight knit so I’m nervous to find out who it is, if I know them, if my son plays with, the parent of someone my son plays with. It’s very scary and it’s sad. We gotta end gun violence, seriously.”

As of Thursday morning, police hasn’t provided updates on the victim or possible suspects, and the condominium management has not issued a statement.

The investigation remains active, and no additional details about the victim or possible suspect were immediately released.
