OAKLAND PARK, Fla. — Two people were killed and a third was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash Thursday night in Oakland Park, authorities said.
Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue personnel responded to reports of the crash at about 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of Northwest Ninth Avenue and Northwest 40th Street.
Investigators said two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The extent of the injuries is unknown.
One of the victim was identified by relatives at the scene as Teddy McCall, 64, who they said was driving his car with his wife inside.
They said as he was making a left turn, their car collided with a second vehicle.
Relatives said McCall’s wife was rushed to the hospital.
Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating the crash.
As a result of the investigation, both northbound and southbound lanes of Northwest Ninth Avenue were temporarily shut down. All lanes have since reopened.
