WESTON, Fla. — The Broward Sheriff’s Office said a report about a possible attempted kidnapping in Weston Monday morning was determined to be unfounded.
According to Weston officials, the alleged kidnapping attempt of a “young girl” was reported shortly before 7 a.m. in the area of Bonaventure Boulevard and Sagemont Way, near the private Sagemont Preparatory School.
Officials said deputies were looking for a dark blue minivan – possibly a Honda or Hyundai – that is being driven by a male who is “masked and hooded.”

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter where you live or what your zip code is -- anything can happen,” Erika Hutchinson said.
Hutchinson told Local 10 she has three teenagers who walk to the bus stop every day.
“I’m always worried for their safety no matter where we are,” she said. “I’ve always discussed with them. They walk together to the bus stop. You’re not on your phone when you’re out walking the dogs or anytime.”
While BSO has confirmed the report was unfounded, detectives have not yet revealed whether the person who made the report intentionally filed a fake report or why they might have thought someone was trying to kidnap a child.
