COCONUT GROVE, Fla. — The King Mango Strut took place on Sunday in Coconut Grove.
Jill Bloom and her family were among the thousands who attended the 42nd annual event.
“We try to come most years,” said Bloom. “It’s fun and inventive, creative and we enjoy the humor.”
Attendee John was there to protest ICE raids.
“I think it’s necessary to have people express their discomfort with the government,” he said. “These are ice free zones. It’s a country built by immigrants and we don’t want ice here.”
For more than four decades, the King Mango Strut has been a satirical take on everything from political figures to popular moments.
“We are best friends forever,” said Steve Capellini, who was dressed with a friend as Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. “It’s breath of fresh air. It’s a relief on the pressure valve of tense situation and environment we find ourselves in.”
Some of the satire was South Florida focused, like an escaped dolphin from the Miami Seaquarium.
