The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Federal Highway, about a mile south of Copans Road.

Broward Sheriff’s Office dispatchers said they received multiple reports of a serious traffic crash, prompting a response from deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue.

According to investigators, 18-year-old Richard Manuel Alcocer, of Pompano Beach, was driving a 2014 white BMW M5 southbound on North Federal Highway.

Authorities said two passengers were also in the BMW: Miguel Montez, 16, and Ruben Baltazar, 15.

“We lost, not just three good kids, but three young souls,” a classmate said. “Like, they had futures.”

Alcocer’s brother, Juan, was left in despair.

“I’m in disbelief it doesn’t feel real to me,” he said.

Investigators said a 2024 Acura Integra, driven by Fabiola Groves, exited a shopping plaza near Northeast 18th Street and turned right to travel southbound on North Federal Highway.

For reasons still under investigation, the BMW struck the raised concrete curb in the center median, causing the driver to lose control.

The BMW then collided with the Acura in what investigators described as a “sideswipe-type impact” to the front driver’s side of the Acura.

Deputies said after impact, the BMW rotated clockwise, slid sideways across the roadway, jumped the west curb, and crashed into a Broward County Transit bus stop before striking a concrete light pole and a tree.

They said Acura came to a controlled stop in the left-turn lane. The driver of the Acura did not report any injuries.

Deputies and firefighters worked to extricate the three male teens from the BMW. All three were transported to Broward Health North, where they were pronounced dead, according to deputies.

Detectives said preliminary findings indicate excessive speed by the BMW’s driver may have been a contributing factor. The roadway was shut down for several hours as investigators examined the scene, collected evidence, and documented the crash.

“It hurts to see your friend just die like that,” Bryan Robles, a friend of the victims, said.

BSO spokesperson Carey Codd said detectives are continuing to take witness statements and search for video footage that may help determine what led up to the crash.

“Any loss of life in a situation like this is absolutely tragic, especially to have three young people die in a crash like this,” Codd said.
