The crime scene was shortly after 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday at a first-floor apartment at 101 NE 41st Street, according to BSO.

Deputies reported there was a struggle with Mario A. Ramirez, the murder suspect, as they attempted to apply “pressure to stop his bleeding” from what appeared to be “a self-inflicted injury.”

Oakland Park Fire Rescue personnel pronounced the woman dead and took Ramirez to the Broward Health Medical Center.

Neighbors described the victim as a pregnant mother who lived in the apartment with her children. Ramirez faced a charge of second-degree murder, according to Claudinne Caro, a spokeswoman for BSO.

A neighbor said that before the family’s tragedy, they had heard noises related to the couple’s domestic violence coming from the apartment.

Deputies had yet to confirm if the man and the woman were a couple and if they had a history of domestic violence.

“It sounded like furniture, like hitting, and there was a lot of screaming,” a neighbor said.

There was blood splattered on a window. Deputies and the medical examiner’s office used a blue plastic tarp to cover the woman’s body.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477 to remain anonymous.
