Coast Guard suspends search for 2 boaters who went missing in Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The United States Coast Guard on Tuesday suspended the search for two men who they say went missing while fishing off the coast of Lee County this past weekend.

Authorties said Brandon Bill Meyer, 33, of Weston, and his uncle, Randall Spivey, 57, disappeared during a fishing trip Friday morning. Relatives said the men did not return at sunset as planned.

A Coast Guard helicopter found their empty boat early Saturday morning about 70 miles off Fort Myers. Authorities reported the vessel did not have life jackets.

The Coast Guard had asked the public for help in reporting any sightings to Coast Guard Station St. Petersburg at 1-866-881-1392.
