FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A Fort Lauderdale driver hit a rescue vehicle early Saturday morning, fled the scene, and then crashed a Tesla in a rollover on Davie Boulevard, leaving him hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities confirmed.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, just before 2:45 a.m., one of their rescue units was involved in a minor accident at 201 E. Las Olas Blvd.
FLFR officials said there was no damage to the rescue unit, and no injuries occurred. The driver of the vehicle that hit the rescue unit fled the scene.
About a minute later, they said rescue crews were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover on Davie Boulevard.
Investigators say the driver who fled the first accident lost control while crossing train tracks, causing the vehicle — a Tesla — to veer off the road, strike a home’s front porch, and roll over at 301 Davie Blvd.
Firefighters arrived on scene and found the driver outside the vehicle.
Authorities said they treated his injuries and transported him to Broward Health Medical Center as a level two trauma alert. Officials confirmed that the injuries were non-life-threatening.
Part of the home’s porch was knocked to the ground. No one inside the house was hurt. Police attempted to contact the homeowner overnight and left a notice before taping off the area.
The Tesla was heavily damaged and towed from the scene. Roads in the area were closed for several hours as crews cleared debris. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
No other details were immediately released. Authorities have not confirmed if the driver of the Tesla will face charges.
