AAA projects more than 122 million Americans will travel for the holidays, with just over eight million flying.

Experts project a 2.3% increase in domestic air travel compared with 2024.

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, roadways were congested as travelers arrived and departed, heading to and from the Sunshine State.

“Oh my gosh, it was so busy at O’Hare airport. We were very surprised we left at five in the morning. There were tones of people,” said Tia Campbell, who traveled from Chicago.

After arriving at FLL, she was met with similar crowds inside the terminal.

“It is a little bit stressful to be honest with you. I think we are delayed twenty minutes, that’s about it. We’re gonna wish for the best,” said Bruce Ringguette, who was traveling to Kansas City.

Across the airport’s four terminals, check-in lines filled quickly. Some passengers waited in hallways, while others passed the time playing board games.

“It’s either this week or the next week,” said Carmen Maddox, who was traveling home to Columbus.

The final stretch of holiday travel began Saturday, bringing increased crowds and longer waits.

“Probably won’t do it again. It’s very hectic -- 10 out of 10 do not recommend,” said Destinee Wright, who was traveling home.

Despite the stress that often comes with holiday travel, some passengers planned ahead to avoid major disruptions.

“We did book a day earlier so worst case we’re gonna get there tomorrow. We’re actually going to the Chiefs game. We got five days to get there,” Ringguette said.

As of Friday, there were no major delays reported at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

“Oh woah, do you have all your materials? Do you have boarding passes. Is there going to be a long delay? How early should I get to the airport? It is pretty nerve racking but once you get through the lines you’re fine,” Campbell said.
