MIAMI — It has been two months since Dwight Wells was murdered — two months with no answers and still no arrests.
On Thursday, inside the Miami Police Department, Wells’ family stood together, desperate for answers.
“I want to know who the murderer is,” said Wells’ mother, Mary Brown. “I asked God myself, ‘Why? What for? Who?’”
As they continue to wait, police released new surveillance video. The video shows a person police believe is the suspect running away in a hoodie moments after investigators say Wells was shot outside his restaurant, Winning and Won Turkey Legs, in the Liberty City neighborhood.
Wells, 40, was the founder of “Bikes Up, Guns Down,” an organization focused on turning violence into direction and replacing anger with positivity.
His family says Wells was more than a mentor. He was a role model and a safe place for young men looking for guidance.
Brown and Wells’ sister, Trawonna Barron, say the loss has been overwhelming since Oct. 10.
“It’s traumatizing. Sleepless nights. It hurts. It’s sad. I miss him,” Barron said.
The family said every day without answers makes the grief heavier — not just for them, but for the young men Wells left behind.
Detectives and Wells’ family are asking anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477. Tips can be made anonymously.
