MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies arrested a northeast Miami-Dade man on two felony charges on Tuesday after they said he had been collecting his dead mother’s Social Security checks for more than four years.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report states that federal investigators discovered in December 2024 that $51,783 had been deposited into a joint bank account belonging to Baby Casseus, 62, and his mother since the latter died in July 2020.
“The Social Security Administration attempted to retrieve its funds from Bank of America, but discovered the funds were retrieved except for $11,473.00 that was returned by Bank of America,” the report states.
Authorities said in late November, Casseus admitted to SSA investigators that he had been receiving the money.
Deputies arrested Casseus, who lives in the unincorporated Biscayne Gardens area, at MDSO’s Northside station on charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud Tuesday.
As of Wednesday, he was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and his bond was listed as “to be set” in online records.
