Man accused of stealing Ferrari speaks after bonding out of jail

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused of stealing a luxury sports car and fleeing from police spoke briefly after bonding out of the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Wednesday night.

Deshawn Prendergast, 28, did not remain silent when asked about cellphone video that investigators say shows him fleeing police in a stolen Ferrari.

“What video? I didn’t see no video? What video?” Prendergast said.

The video, captured in the early morning on Tuesday, allegedly shows Prendergast fleeing and eluding police in Miami before the stolen Ferrari crashes into a light pole along Southwest Second Avenue in Brickell.

When asked directly whether he stole the vehicle, Prendergast denied any involvement.

“What Ferrari? I didn’t have no Ferrari. My b**ch did this to me,” Prendergast said.

Prendergast, who had a bandaged face, later appeared before a Miami-Dade judge.

The Bronx resident is accused of stealing a Ferrari, fleeing and eluding police, reckless driving and causing property damage.

According to investigators, the luxury vehicle had been scheduled to be picked up by a transport company and delivered to a business but never arrived. The owners later contacted police, leading to the pursuit that ended with the crash.

Authorities also revealed that a Rolls-Royce being transported by the same company was stolen from Miami Beach.
