HIALEAH GARDENS, Fla. — Two students at a South Florida charter school were sent to the hospital after being sickened by something they ate on Wednesday.
It happened at Mater Academy, located at 7901 NW 103rd St. in Hialeah Gardens.
Both girls looked distressed and crying as they were loaded into ambulances.
“The school contacted emergency responders after students reported feeling ill following the ingestion of a food item,” Lynn Norman-Teck, a spokesperson for the Florida Charter School Alliance, said in a statement. “Rescue services were called, and the students are currently receiving medical evaluation and care. The situation is being monitored closely, and the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority.”
Local 10 News spoke to Mater Academy students, who were unsure what their classmates ate and where it might have came from.
Similar incidents have recently occurred at other schools, including at Margate Middle School, where students were sickened by a laced edible snack.
