Alex Rodriguez hosts annual holiday party, toy drive at Boys & Girls Club in Miami

MIAMI — Santa Claus made quite an entrance during a gift giveaway event in Miami on Wednesday.

Santa ditched his sleigh and dropped in by helicopter, landing in front of hundreds of excited kids at the Hank Kline Boys & Girls Club in Miami.

The event was the annual holiday party and toy drive hosted by former MLB superstar Alex Rodriguez.

“This is the 18th year of the Boys & Girls Club, Alex Rodriguez toy drive,” he said. “We have over 600 kids. They’re growing and learning and getting fed and having a great day.”

For nearly 20 years, Rodriguez has returned to give back to the place that helped shape him as a young athlete.

While talking to old friends, and some new ones, memories came back to him.

“When I was 12 years old, we collected food stamps,” said Rodriguez. “This place provided a place of safety, love, and understanding of what was important in life.”

At Wednesday’s celebration, children unwrapped toys, shared magical moments with Santa and walked away with something even bigger: gratitude.

“Anything is possible,” said Rodriguez. “You can have limited resources but your dreams don’t have to be limited.”
