Miami-Dade runoff elections set for Tuesday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Voters in Miami-Dade County will head back to the polls Tuesday for several key runoff races that will decide leadership in Miami, Miami Beach and Hialeah.

After crowded fields in November left multiple races without a clear majority winner, the top candidates are now facing off one-on-one.

Miami Mayor

  • Eileen Higgins
  • Emilio González

In the first round of voting, Eileen Higgins emerged as the top vote-getter with roughly 36 percent of ballots cast, but she fell short of the more than 50 percent threshold required to win outright.

Following her was Emilio González, with approximately 19 percent of the vote.

Miami Commissioner – District 3

The District 3 seat—representing some of the city’s most historic neighborhoods—will be decided between:

  • Frank Carollo
  • Rolando Escalona

The winner will play an important role in shaping policy on neighborhood revitalization, zoning and community services.

Miami Beach Commissioner – Group 1

Miami Beach voters will choose between two candidates hoping to address tourism impacts, public safety and storm-preparedness:

  • Monica Matteo-Salinas
  • Monique Pardo Pope

Hialeah Councilmember – Group III

Hialeah residents will decide the Group III seat between:

  • Jessica Castillo
  • Gelien Perez

Hialeah Councilmember – Group IV

Another Hialeah council seat is also on the ballot, with:

  • William “Willy” Marrero
  • Javier Morejon
