MIAMI — An attorney for former NFL star Antonio Brown filed a motion to dismiss his attempted second-degree murder charge Thursday, citing Florida’s Stand Your Ground law.

According to the document filed by attorney Mark Eiglarsh, Brown is immune from prosecution as he acted in self-defense during the May confrontation outside an underground boxing match in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood with a man who had a violent history toward him, which has been documented.

The motion states that in 2022, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu was jailed in Dubai for 30 days for stealing Brown’s jewelry.

Then in December 2023, Nantambu allegedly attacked Brown while Brown was backstage at the Rolling Loud music festival with several of his children, the motion stated.

According to the motion, Brown spotted Nantambu as he was exiting the boxing match in May and believed Nantambu was about to attack him as Nantambu tucked his chain inside his shirt before approaching Brown.

The motion further alleges that video evidence shows Nantambu waiting outside the event for Brown despite not being invited.

Brown was released from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County last month following his arrest, which was made months after an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Nantambu claimed that he was grazed by a bullet in the neck during the May shooting.

In June, a warrant was issued for Brown’s arrest but state prosecutors said he has been on the run ever since.

Brown was located in Dubai, where he was last seen posting videos on social media. U.S. Marshals traveled there and ultimately took him into custody before bringing him back to the States.

While Brown had only been at TGK for a couple of days, Eiglarsh told Local 10 News that he had been in custody for a total of 40 days since he was detained in Dubai and brought back to the U.S.

Brown was released from jail after posting a $25,000 bond and was ordered by a judge to not have any contact with the alleged victim.

He was outfitted with a GPS ankle monitor prior to his release.
