SWEETWATER, Fla. — Surveillance cameras captured the moment a woman appeared to abandon a dog on a Sweetwater roadside Wednesday morning, prompting community concern and an investigation.
Footage shows a white sedan pulling up just before 10:30 a.m. A woman steps out, leaves the dog on the side of the road and returns to the car. The dog can be seen running around the vehicle and jumping against the door, but the driver pulls away, leaving it behind.
The incident happened directly across from the home of Abraham Siu, who said the dog remained near his yard after the car left.
“The car is gone but the dog is constantly pacing on my yard,” he said.
Siu ran outside to help and later posted the video on a neighborhood app, where it quickly spread across social media. He said someone who saw the post picked up the dog and brought it to a grooming facility.
The dog was taken to Wag Spot in Miami, where staff shaved off heavily matted fur.
“It was in really bad shape… it needed grooming big time,” Siu said.
According to the grooming staff, the dog’s condition suggested it may never have been groomed before. After treatment, the animal was placed in a new home.
Siu and others who saw the video say they hope the woman involved is identified.
Investigators are working to determine who abandoned the dog.
