Mural artist Shane Grammer is creating a large-scale piece on campus as part of Art Basel and Miami Art Week.

Grammer’s work has appeared at major art festivals and in public spaces, often blending beauty with social commentary. This is his second mural at the school, both portraying the mascot — large knights.

Before the paint fully covers the wall, several student-written messages remain visible, including “school is my happy place,” “Mural project,” and “Cuban Coffee is the best!”

Grammer said the project allows him to bring his art into an educational space for young students.

“I’m always hoping that my work will inspire youth. I wish I would’ve met someone like me when I was 16, 17, 18,” Grammer said. “If I get a chance to speak into them and encourage them about the business side; pursuing their passion to be an artist full time that’s a win.”

Renee Blanco, a senior at Miami Sunset Senior High School, said seeing Grammer at work has been motivating.

“Being able to see him, being able to talk to him. This is my kinda stuff so seeing people who are actually doing it, it’s like my favorite thing,” she said.

Drivers along Southwest 72nd Street can already see the mural from the roadway. Grammer said he expects to finish the piece by Saturday night.
