MIAMI — A Miami police drone helped officers track and apprehend a suspect who they said was involved in a domestic dispute last month, and it was all caught on camera.
The incident occurred on Nov. 11, when the suspect, identified by Miami pilice as 24-year-old LeCurry Anthony Williams Jr., allegedly shoved his girlfriend and vandalized a window at a residence.
At the same time, the Miami Police Department’s Drone First Responder unit deployed the drone, DFR 11, to the area. The drone arrived before patrol units thanks to its rapid aerial response capabilities and quickly spotted the suspect attempting to leave the scene.
Police said DFR 11 maintained continuous visual contact with Williams and provided real-time updates to responding officers.
They said Williams tried to change clothes in an effort to evade capture, but the live drone feed allowed officers to track his movements and appearance throughout the incident.
The enhanced situational awareness helped officers safely approach and apprehend the suspect without further incident, contributing to an effective resolution of the call.
MPD said they continue to use tools like the Drone First Responder program to improve officer safety, reduce response times, and better serve the community.
Jail records show Williams was arrested and faces one count of battery.
His bond information wasn’t immediately available.
