DORAL, Fla. — The Global Empowerment Mission is sending another shipment of aid to Jamaica on Monday as the island continues to recover from Hurricane Melissa.
The organization has already delivered 23 planes, 21 containers and three ships filled with supplies — a total of about 3 million pounds of food and materials valued at roughly $5 million, according to GEM.
Volunteers packed food boxes bound for communities still struggling in the storm’s aftermath.
Jeff Popovich, vice president of the Global Empowerment Mission, said the need for volunteers and donations remains urgent and the organization expects to continue its relief work well into the recovery phase.
“As we move into longer-term recovery, we will need plywood and 2-by-8s,” Popovich said.
