Life Time Turkey Trot draws holiday crowd at Tropical Park

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Thousands of runners and walkers took to Tropical Park Thursday for the annual Life Time Miami Turkey Trot, kicking off Thanksgiving Day with exercise, costumes, and community spirit.

Participants ranged from seasoned runners to first-timers and families. For 75-year-old Abby, it’s tradition.

“I do it every year… so I can eat the pie,” she said. Others cited fun, fitness, or spending time with loved ones as motivation.

Miguel Mendoza, dressed as a turkey, cheered on participants. “It’s a fun way to throw out positivity and have fun with it,” he said.

The event, organized by Life Time Athletic Events, also supports local causes. Monetary donations benefit children’s health programs, and non-perishable foods were collected for Camilla’s House.

For many, finishing was the real reward. “It’s not about the time, it’s about the good times,” said participant Frankie. Six-year-old Ruby ran the 5K and called it “a lot,” but worth it.

Families like Brandon and Luca Chase said the trot is about shared experiences as much as exercise. “It’s just been an amazing day,” Brandon said.

Whether running or walking, participants left energized and ready for the holiday feast ahead.
