Food donations in high demand for distributions across South Florida as Thanksgiving holiday nears

Donations in high demand as food banks see surge of families in need

MIAMI — The Homeless Trust has said more Miami-Dade County senior citizens are falling into homelessness.

As Chapman Partnership said previously, they are witnessing an uptick in families with young children also needing assistance at a time when food banks county-wide are working to keep up with the demand for food assistance as high living cots from housing to groceries continue to take a toll.

City leaders in Doral on Monday said they were a expecting a larger than normal turnout for a Thanksgiving turkey giveaway sponsored by Butterball in partnership with American Foods.

In a news release, the city said, in part:

“As families continue to feel the strain of rising food costs and with recent uncertainty around the timing of nutrition assistance benefits. This year’s giveaway comes at a significant moment. The event ensures Doral families can bring home a full Thanksgiving meal and the additional food support they need this holiday season.”

The giveaway aims to distribute more than 500 turkeys and an additional 800-plus food items.

Catholic Charities is also making an urgent request for food donations, particularly essential proteins such as beef, poultry, fish and pork.

Anyone interested in donating food is urged to contact Anaderky Macias at 954-540-8967 or amacias@ccadm.org.
