MIAMI — A 26-year-old man from Miami was arrested Tuesday, weeks after he allegedly shared a video of him having sexual intercourse with his ex-girlfriend on a group chat, authorities said.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Police Department, the video was shared on Oct. 31.
Police said the victim and the suspect, Hernan Jose Castro, were “in a relationship” for only about one week while she was visiting Miami and then broke up after she left.
According to the report, after the couple broke up, a mutual friend told the victim that Castro had uploaded a video of them engaging in sexual intercourse to a group chat.
The video was eventually sent to the victim and she identified herself in the video and told police that she was unaware that Castro was filming them nor did she consent to being recorded.
Police said she also showed them a screenshot where it appears Castro told a friend that they “better not send it to anyone.”
According to the report, the victim confronted Castro, but his statement to her was redacted from the publicly released report.
Police said the victim identified Castro by submitting a photo of him to detectives.
He was taken into custody Tuesday and questioned by detectives.
According to the arrest report, Castro initially denied that there were any videos of him and the victim engaging in sexual intercourse, but when shown the video, claimed it had been taken on the victim’s cellphone. He later retracted that claim, authorities said.
Castro was arrested on charges of digital voyeurism dissemination and sexual cyberharassment.
As of Wednesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
