SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. — The attorney for a man accused of punching out a window during a road rage incident in Sunny Isles Beach said he believes that officers got the wrong guy. But the two alleged victims say they believe he is the suspect.
Oleg Kravchenko, 43, of Hollywood, was arrested on Friday evening in connection with the Nov. 7 incident at Collins Avenue and 193rd Street.
He’s accused of punching out the window while he and the victims were at a red light.
Police said the two victims were an 18-year-old man and his 17-year-old girlfriend, the latter of whom was injured by shattered glass, leading to a child abuse charge.
The two spoke to Local 10 News on Tuesday and asked to remain anonymous.
“He was screaming something, so I put my window down and I’m like, ‘What did you say to me?’” the 18-year-old said.
The 17-year-old said of the punch, “As fast as I could, I covered my head,” saying she sustained glass injuries to her arms and waist.
Police said the girl identified Kravchenko afterwards from a photo lineup.
But Kravchenko’s attorney, Yale Sanford, said Tuesday that he believes his client is innocent.
“We are confident that this is a case of misidentification and look forward to working with the State Attorney’s Office,” Sanford said in a statement to Local 10 News.
The girl, however, remains resolute that Kravchenko is the perpetrator.
“I saw what I saw and I looked at him in the eyes at one point because I started crying in those eyes,” she said. “Yes, I will never forget those eyes.”
