FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A bomb threat at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport led sheriff’s deputies to evacuate a portion of the airport on Tuesday afternoon.
Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Claudinne Caro said “the lower level and upper levels of Terminal 4 (were) being evacuated while deputies conduct a security sweep.”
According to BSO, deputies detained Angel Orlando Fernandez-Garcia after he claimed “he had a bomb in his bag.”
Bomb squad deputies secured the bag and eventually determined there was no bomb, Caro said.
Officials said late Tuesday afternoon that deputies arrested Fernandez-Garcia, 30, on one count of false report of a bomb.
He did not yet appear in BSO jail records as of around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
