SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. — A man is facing child abuse and criminal mischief charges after authorities say he injured a girl by punching out a car window during a road rage incident in Sunny Isles Beach.
Oleg Kravchenko, 43, of Hollywood, was arrested on Friday evening in connection with the Nov. 7 incident at Collins Avenue and 193rd Street.
Investigators said just after 7 p.m., Kravchenko, driving a white truck, approached the victim’s vehicle “while yelling and screaming” as they were stopped at the intersection.
According to an arrest report from the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department, the driver said he lowered his window to see what Kravchenko was saying.
“After a brief verbal exchange, (Kravchenko) returned to his truck and was seen reaching from the driver’s side and retrieving a black object with a grip, which the victim believed to be a firearm,” the report states. “(He) then approached the victim’s vehicle again, holding the object behind his back with one arm.”
Authorities said Kravchenko then punched the passenger’s side window, “causing it to shatter” as the victim tried raising it. The glass fragments injured a girl sitting in the passenger’s seat, authorities said.
“The victim then immediately fled the area by continuing southbound on Collins Avenue to avoid further confrontation and to ensure he was not being followed,” the report states.
Authorities said the girl was later able to pick Kravchenko out of a photo lineup and authorities arrested him after his truck pinged on the city’s license plate reader system.
Police said they pulled over the truck, driven by Kravchenko’s father, who was then “was then instructed to contact his son” and tell him to go to the SIBPD headquarters for an interview.
Investigators arrested Kravchenko after that interview.
The Ukrainian national was no longer listed in Miami-Dade jail records as of Monday morning.
